Dear World Racer,
To put it simply, you are crazy. For that, I will be eternally grateful because God has used you to change my life in dramatic ways. He has used you all show me that even little nobodies fresh out of college can travel the world and change it for The Kingdom.
God used Amy to show me that in Him all things are possible, including living out of a backpack for 11 months.
He used Amy's teammate, Brian, to introduce me (through blog stalking) to Sarah's Covenant Homes and their need for nurses. (Although I didn't know then, how important an introduction it was.)
God used Thomas to play Needtobreathe's "White Fences". Which, in turn, lead me to find Palmetto Medical Initiative (PMI).
PMI took me to Uganda on a medical mission, where God showed up. He told me I had been created for such a time as this. He whispered to my soul that the time was now to "Go!". Uganda renewed the passion in me to be His hands and feet.
Selfishly I wanted to be one of you. I wanted the excitement of adventure in 11 different countries and the experience of living in community. I talked to AIM staff and read through the WR application, ready to fill it out. Peace evaded me. Gently, God reminded me that I had been given the skills and talents as a nurse for a specific reason. While Megan (and now Estie! Yay IWU nursing!) showed me that nurses can nurse on the WR, I felt The World Race wasn't for me. But neither was staying at home.
Sometimes God keeps the full picture hidden. Other times He shows it in full glory. Looking back, and also forward this story is of the latter. On May 29th I will be leaving home, flying to India and nursing the beautiful children at Sarah's Covenant Homes for the next year and I couldn't be more excited.
Thank you for being bold and courageous (and sometimes just plan insane, like my girl Meghan!), for following the call that God put on your heart. Thank you for being humble enough to let Him use you in any and all ways necessary to bring The Kingdom. Know your Race legacy is not over now that you are Stateside, the work lives on in ways you don't even know. May God continue to bless the work of your hands and may He guide your feet as you continue the adventure of following Him.
P.S. I realize that all this blog stalking makes me sound creepy. I'm not I promise! The passion for what God is doing in the world is contagious.
